| During
the six Sundays of Lent, and Easter Sunday in 2003, the youth participated by
lighting the candles of the Lenten and Easter cross and leading the call to
worship with scripture, meditation, prayer and song. Similar to the Advent
wreath, the Lenten cross held candles, which were lit each Sunday as we moved
toward Easter. During Lent, there were six purple candles and one white candle
on the cross. On Easter Sunday, all the candles were white. The purple candles
represented royalty, repentance and a time of preparation. The white candles
representing Christ symbolized purity, joy and resurrection. Also, each Sunday,
symbols were placed near the cross to help us remember and understand the
meaning of this season.

The first Sunday,
the youth, under the leadership of Patsy Shreckhise, their director and guitar
accompanist, Bill Sprinkel, the youth sang a call to worship song called “Now
Is The Time To Worship”. Kortnee Raynes also sang a solo on one of the verses.

Each Sunday, we
added singers to the call to worship, and continued to sing, “Come, Now Is The
Time To Worship”.
The second Sunday, the youth leaders also sang. Bly Patterson was an
added accompanist with her violin. She and Bill played every Sunday thereafter.
