Gladys Wonderley, Building Committee Chair, gave a warm welcome
to the large crowd, including many friends and visitors. She then introduced the
special guests who played a significant role in planning for the re-building
effort.. |

|
Some of the crowd were seated as they
listened - - - while others stood during the ceremony. |
 |
Sam and Evelyn Shrum, listened intently. Mr. Shrum has been a
very valuable resource person for Mount Horeb's Lead Committee as they planned
for the Capital Campaign to raise a million dollars to fund the new building. |
 |
Rev. Tom Hay, Shenandoah Presbytery's Executive Presbyter, had
the opening prayer and shared his thoughts about this special occasion and the
implications regarding Mount Horeb's Future. |
 |
Danny Shreckhise, a Building Committee member, offered remarks
regarding the design process and provided a detailed overview of the attributes
of the new building. Besides a larger Sanctuary, he highlighted the importance
of the new Fellowship Hall to our expanding youth ministry and programs. |
 |
Brenda Bosserman, representing the Lead Committee, provided an
overview of the status of the Capital Campaign. She thanked those present for
their generous giving and noted that 36.5% of the one million dollar target has
already been received.
Brenda also challenged those present to take a serious look at their
stewardship and give sacrificially, out of love for Christ and one another, to
help make God's Vision a reality in the Mount Horeb community.
|
 |
John Bosserman, also a Building Committee member, shared
comments related to the building process and coordinated the actual
groundbreaking. |
 |
Brenda Bosserman and Rev. Don Wilkinson await the order from
John to "dig in." |
 |
Once the order is given, the crowd armed with shovels respond
in earnest. |
 |
Rev. Tom Hay, Gladys Wonderley and John Bosserman "have at
it" with their shiny new shovels. |
 |
Rev. Don Wilkerson, Mount Horeb's congregational care minister,
gave final remarks regarding the significance of the event and closed the
ceremony with prayer. |
 |
After the ceremony everyone was invited to enjoy refreshments
in the Fellowship Hall where we met Mr. and Mrs. Philip Bulkin from Augusta
Stone Church. We owe Mr. Bulkin a large debt of gratitude - - - he was the
person who arranged for the gift of the Rose Window to Mount Horeb by his former
church in New York. |
| With the temperature in the 80s and
full Sun, it was a beautiful day. We thank God for all who attended in support
of this momentous event in the life of the Mount Horeb congregation.
