Mission Trip

On
June 22, 2002 three of our youth, Willie Patterson and Rachel & Rebecca
Bosserman and two of their adult leaders, John and Brenda Bosserman, traveled
with 27 others from the Shenandoah Presbytery to Baja, Mexico. The goal of this
week-long mission trip was to build one room homes that would provide for the
physical need of shelter to needy families while showing the love of Christ.

This was the first part of our trip. Patiently waiting to
board the plane! |

Next, we traveled by vans into Baja, Mexico. |

Driving over and around the mountains, we noticed they were
more barren than the mountains we had left behind. |

Part of the drive was along the coastline. The Pacific Ocean
was a beautiful blue. |

Arriving at a missionary camp, where we stayed, we were
greeted and welcomed by the many missionaries who organized this house-building
outreach mission trip.
This is Bill and
Peggy, one of the missionary families. |

Another missionary family was Greg and Glenda and their six
children. |

The first day we met
each of the two Oaxacan (wah-HA-can) families that we were to build a home for.
Here is some of the
family from site #1 |

And the family from site #2. |

One of the most important parts of the house build was the
relationship that we made with these families. Every day at noon, we would share
our lunch with the family. |

The most fulfilling job was playing with the children, says
Rebecca. |

Rachel thought it was so much fun to hold the babies!

Willie said the children loved to play. Especially simple
things, like throwing and catching a ball or balloon and horsy rides on your
back. |

Playing with the children and getting to know the family was
our first priority. After this some painting started! |

Then the walls went up! |

Next, sections of the roof were lifted and secured! |

Then, after a lot more
painting, the electrical wiring was installed. A door and window was added. Beds
and tables were made. Finally, the home was furnished with needed items like
mattresses, sheets, chairs and dressers.
Here Rachel, Willie,
and Rebecca pose with other youth in front of the home they helped to build. |

At the end of the week
we were all saddened to leave the families we had built relationships with. The
homes were dedicated to each family.
Here at site # 2 Rev.’s
Mark Stanley, John McLean, Wray Sherman, and Woody Rea dedicate this home to the
family through an interpreter.
Our work is done here.
The rest is in the hand of the Lord! |
