At 8:00 am volunteers loaded sale items that had
been stored in the Fellowship Hall of the church into Charles Patterson's truck
to be taken to the Weyers Cave Community Center. |
 |
All donated items were placed on tables, racks, the
floor, etc in an organized manner. The 400 Silent Auction items were numbered
and Bid Sheets attached. Elaine Quick, Barbara Powers and Kathy Bush take a
break to discuss procedural matters. Kathy is a volunteer from Staunton and has
considerable experience with Silent Auctions. She provided many helpful tips and
assisted with setting up. |
 |
Beans, beans and more beans! Eva Ann Wonderley and
Brenda Bosserman add seasoning to the eight gallons of beans they prepared for
the occasion. |
 |
Dawn Bulle takes a break after arranging and
pricing all the bake sale items. |
 |
Alice Wenger, Patti Craig and Dawn share their
thoughts and hopes about the up-coming sale. |
 |
Peggy Wonderley gets organized to be a Teller for
the White Elephant items while Charles Wonderley and Velma Kuykendall look on. |
 |
As time for the evening meal arrives the crowd's
thoughts turn to food and a line forms. Near the front of the line, George
Howell makes his dinner selection. |
 |
After receiving their order, folks settle in to
enjoy a wholesome meal featuring Mike Via's beef or pork barbecue. |

The "Faithful Men" volunteered to do a
benefit concert in support of Mount Horeb's rebuilding efforts. Here they fine
tune their harmony just prior to their concert. |
 |
There are currently twelve members in this men's
Christian chorus from Waynesboro. They are well known through the area and are
credited in part for attracting such a large crowd. |
 |
The crowd applauds warmly as The Faithful Men are
introduced - - - |
 |
and then listen intently as they perform. |
 |
Once the bidding is closed, Bill Sprinkel, MC (on
right) announces successful bidder numbers for each item and the bid sheets are
distributed to the bidders by helpers. |
 |
After each bidder picks up the items they
purchased, they pay the tellers, Brenda Bosserman, Linda Shreckhise and Gladys
Wonderley. The event raised $11,600.00 after expenses for the Re-building Fund. |
| We thank all those
persons and local businesses who contributed items to the sale, all those who
helped with the sale in any way and each person who attended and participated in
the event. It was considered a HUGE success and we feel truly blessed for such a
broad showing of support in our effort to rebuild.
